An early spring or not?

An early spring is on the way, according to groundhog "Punxsutawney Phil."

When the Pennsylvania groundhog emerged from his dwelling at Gobbler's Knob Saturday morning, he did not see his shadow.According to folklore, if a groundhog emerges from its burrow and sees its shadow, then six more weeks of winter weather is on the way. If it comes out and sees no shadow, spring is expected to come early.

Punxsutawney, a small Pennsylvania town home to one of the most famous weather-predicting groundhogs, Punxsutawney Phil, has been carrying on the tradition of Groundhog Day since the 1800s, according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club.

Here in central Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil faces some stiff competition. My K-9 cousin Rippy "The Roo" Richwine emerged early from his den and did see his shadow.

While Dad would be happy if he never saw another snowflake the rest of his life, frankly I'm looking forward to a little more snow that is expected to fall here in central Pennsylvania tomorrow.

Who would you rather believe? Some rascally rodent or my cute cousin?

Whose prediction for spring do you believe?
