Colder weather usually sneaks into Atlanta with the new year, and Marlow's Tavern is ready with the hot and hearty comfort foods Atlantans crave. Seasonal ingredients in savory dishes lead to highly satisfying dinner fare including: goat cheese French toast served with wild mushrooms; goat cheese "stuffed" turkey burger with sweet and spicy red pepper relish; grilled Prestige Farms chicken paillard with hand-cut pappardelle pasta, asparagus, Roma tomato, caramelized onion, wild mushroom cream and shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano; grilled turkey meatloaf made from Golden Legacy organic turkey with shaved Brussels sprouts on the side; and crispy Carolina trout with sautéed spinach, applewood smoked bacon and Pommery mustard cream sauce ($9-$17). Dessert brings out a hot and flakey pecan and apple turnover dolloped with hand-dipped vanilla ice cream ($6). A wintry mix of craft cocktails ($9-$11) features Blackthorn Suppressor with Byrrh aperitif and jasmine liqueur; Blueberry Buck 3.0 with Hanger Blueberry and fresh lime; Classic Martinez of Hayman's Old Tom Gin, Cocchi Vermouth di Torino, Leopold Brother's Maraschino and orange bitters; St. George Gin Sour with St. George Botanivore Gin, Rothman & Winter Peach Liqueur, Cardamaro, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, Fee Brothers Aromatic Bitters and club soda; and the Orchard Manhattan apple-y spin on the classic Manhattan using Riverboat Rye Whiskey. Saintsbury Chardonnay, Carneros, 2010 and Left Coast Cellars Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, 2011 are available by the glass or bottle ($12/$50). Bun warmers, Marlow's Tavern definitely has you beat.

Ecco Stays on Top of Conservation Goals with Rooftop Garden and Condensation Irrigation

Sophisticated yet casual Ecco in Midtown has always been ahead of therestaurant industry's conservation efforts. Georgia's first dumpster-freerestaurant was also the state's first to receive Green Foodservice Alliance (GFA) certification. The Fifth Group Restaurant continues to grow insustainability and environmental consciousness by adding eight new cedar bedswith "cold frame" structures to its rooftop garden, all of which arecovered with Agribon protective material. Farmer D Organics custom-built the beds and alsoinstalled a new irrigation system with a 250-gallon food-grade tote capable ofcontaining 195 more gallons than the previous rain barrel. All of the waterfilling the tote is collected from air conditioning condensation and pumpedthrough drip irrigation into the beds. City water and a timer also kick in whenneeded for optimal moisture. When dining at Ecco be sure to ask what's inseason on the roof. Right now, Tuscan kale, broccoli rabe and Southern giantcurly mustard are growing for the restaurant's seasonally inspired menu.

Over here at MLA we are working hard on some exciting restaurant happenings in 2013. Kevin Gillespie is opening his new restaurant in March in the Glenwood Park area serving great flavors in an intimate atmosphere. Chef Ford Fry, owner of Westside's  JCT. Kitchen & Bar and The Optimist and Oyster Bar at The Optimist and Decatur's No. 246, will add two Buckhead restaurants to his family when he opens King + Duke in the former Nava spacein March and another in the old Bluepointe space later this year.  Bantam + Biddy is increasing its family tree as owners Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere open new Chick-a-biddy at Atlantic Station in April. We also can look forward to more delicious tavern fare with another Marlow's Tavern location (maybe two!) coming this year. Meanwhile, seafood lovers will gain one more sweet spot for succulently prepared fresh fish when Bonefish Grill lands another Atlanta-area restaurant. St. Patrick's Day is always a huge party at Fadó Irish Pub & Restaurant - one that spills out onto the street around the pub like a good flow of green beer. And we're thrilled to announce that South City Kitchen Midtown will celebrate its 20th anniversary in April. One of us over here, ahem, remembers when Crescent Avenue wasn't a very nice street and no one outside the state thought Southern food was anything special. So there's much to celebrate! We're looking forward to another fun year!

Macaulay Culkin Does It 'My Way'

Macaulay Culkin hit up The Red Door Lounge in Billings, MT last night where he did a fantastic rendition of the classic song, "My Way" -- but did he do it as well as our own Harvey Levin did?

Now HL's version, slightly more produced and with the help of Paul Anka.

So the question is ... UPDATE: From our bitter boss ...

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds' Divorce Finalized

To contact us Click HERE
Putting an official end to their under-the-radar romance, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds's divorce became final on Friday, after an out-of-the-blue split late last year.

The final divorce documents were filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, according to E!.

The pair discreetly dated before exchanging vows in rural wedding outside Vancouver in 2008. They have no children.

"Irreconcilable differences" were cited in court papers, and both have said very little to the press to shed additional light on their relationship or breakup.

While Johansson, 26, rebounded this year with a short-lived fling with Sean Penn, Reynolds insisted in a recent interview, "The media was not invited to my marriage, and they're definitely not invited into the divorce." And the 'Green Lantern' star, 34, did concede, "I don't think I want to get married again."

"Anyone who gets divorced goes through a lot of pain, but you come out of it," Reynolds added. "I'm not out of it yet. At all. But I sense that as I do come through it, there's optimism. How can there not be?"

He explained, "Any kind of crisis can be good. It wakes you up. I gotta say, I'm a different person than I was six months ago."

While the partnership did not result in any children, the former spouses did produce a unique collaboration: A new documentary about a lost orca whale found in a British Columbia waterway, and the contentious debate among locals about the affectionate animal's fate. You can catch a glimpse of 'The Whale' -- executive-produced by the couple, and narrated by Reynolds -- via the trailer, available on the movie's official website.

From the advice column, Dear Sugar, #64:
Dear Sugar,
I read your column religiously. I’m 22. From what I can tell by your writing, you’re in your early 40s. My question is short and sweet: what would you tell your 20-something self if you could talk to her now?
Love,

Seeking Wisdom
Dear Seeking Wisdom,
Stop worrying about whether you’re fat. You’re not fat. Or rather, you’re sometimes a little bit fat, but who gives a shit? There is nothing more boring and fruitless than a woman lamenting the fact that her stomach is round. Feed yourself. Literally. The sort of people worthy of your love will love you more for this, sweet pea.
In the middle of the night in the middle of your twenties when your best woman friend crawls naked into your bed, straddles you, and says, You should run away from me before I devour you, believe her.
You are not a terrible person for wanting to break up with someone you love. You don’t need a reason to leave. Wanting to leave is enough. Leaving doesn’t mean you’re incapable of real love or that you’ll never love anyone else again. It doesn’t mean you’re morally bankrupt or psychologically demented or a nymphomaniac. It means you wish to change the terms of one particular relationship. That’s all. Be brave enough to break your own heart.
There are some things you can’t understand yet. Your life will be a great and continuous unfolding. It’s good you’ve worked hard to resolve childhood issues while in your twenties, but understand that what you resolve will need to be resolved again. And again. You will come to know things that can only be known with the wisdom of age and the grace of years. Most of those things will have to do with forgiveness. When that really sweet but fucked up gay couple invites you over to their cool apartment to do ecstasy with them, say no.
One evening you will be rolling around on the wooden floor of your apartment with a man who will tell you he doesn’t have a condom. You will smile in this spunky way that you think is hot and tell him to fuck you anyway. This will be a mistake for which you alone will pay.
Don’t lament so much about how your career is going to turn out. You don’t have a career. You have a life. Do the work. Keep the faith. Be true blue. You are a writer because you write. Keep writing and quit your bitching. Your book has a birthday. You don’t know what it is yet.
You cannot convince people to love you. This is an absolute rule. No one will ever give you love because you want him or her to give it. Real love moves freely in both directions. Don’t waste your time on anything else.
Most things will be okay eventually, but not everything will be. Sometimes you’ll put up a good fight and lose. Sometimes you’ll hold on really hard and realize there is no choice but to let go. Acceptance is a small, quiet room.
One hot afternoon during the era in which you’ve gotten yourself ridiculously tangled up with heroin you will be riding the bus and thinking what a worthless piece of crap you are when a little girl will get on the bus holding the strings of two purple balloons. She’ll offer you one of the balloons, but you won’t take it because you believe you no longer have a right to such tiny beautiful things. You’re wrong. You do.
Your assumptions about the lives of others are in direct relation to your naïve pomposity. Many people you believe to be rich are not rich. Many people you think have it easy worked hard for what they got. Many people who seem to be gliding right along have suffered and are suffering. Many people who appear to you to be old and stupidly saddled down with kids and cars and houses were once every bit as hip and pompous as you.
When you meet a man in the doorway of a Mexican restaurant who later kisses you while explaining that this kiss doesn’t “mean anything” because, much as he likes you, he is not interested in having a relationship with you or anyone right now, just laugh and kiss him back. Your daughter will have his sense of humor. Your son will have his eyes.
The useless days will add up to something. The shitty waitressing jobs. The hours writing in your journal. The long meandering walks. The hours reading poetry and story collections and novels and dead people’s diaries and wondering about sex and God and whether you should shave under your arms or not. These things are your becoming.
One Christmas at the very beginning of your twenties when your mother gives you a warm coat that she saved for months to buy, don’t look at her skeptically after she tells you she thought the coat was perfect for you. Don’t hold it up and say it’s longer than you like your coats to be and too puffy and possibly even too warm. Your mother will be dead by spring. That coat will be the last gift she gave you. You will regret the small thing you didn’t say for the rest of your life.
Say thank you.
Yours,
Sugar

Siberia
Two and a half years later, I'm back in Japan. I flew over the Arctic Circle and down through Siberia. I watched the sun rise over the snow-swept mountains and frozen river beds. Then we flew down the length of Sakhalin Island, Russia's oil-rich property just north of Hokkaido, and I spied a tiny plane flying low over the forests.
I haven't been in daylight in three days. Friday, I left my apartment just after 5 a.m. I arrived in Tokyo the following day at around 5 p.m. and was on the train to Shizuoka after 6, when the sky had already turned black. Today, I woke up at 4:30 p.m. It's so comforting being back though, I feel like I never left. Daylight or no daylight, I'm just happy to be back.

I want to explore the northern regions of countries across the world; Alaska; Nunavut in Canada; Siberia in Russia from the easternmost emptiness down to Sakhalin Island, Vladivostok and west across the nine Russian time zones; How do people live? What do they eat? What stories do they still tell, generations later? And to Antarctica. Like a cold moon on Earth. I hate the cold, but I'd gladly go. I'd wrap myself in wool and fur and hats and gloves and beat myself up for putting myself through the freezing cold just to see it all.

Today's theme is snowflakes....
I decided to show you one of my most favorite cards I have ever made.....

I used the A Child's Year Cricut Cartridge to cut this card out at 7" and the snowflakes at 2 3/4" or 3 1/4" I used the I-top to make the middle of the snowflakes and Bo Bunny Paper Snowfall for my card!

Here are some additional photos as I was making this card.

This was the way the card was cut out with the snowflakes and snowdrops....Before I added the 3-D snowflakes.

This is the inside of the card. I couldn't write on the brown so I added another piece of paper which was lighter for me to write on. I also had extra pieces so I used the tag and the extra snow flakes for the inside.

Here is a side view to see how dimensional this card really is....

As you saw above I made a different Christmas Card.... Brown and Blue.... I know not typical, but too cute!

Here are my snowflakes from my brown glitter paper.

I turn my I-top punch upside down so I can center what I want for the middle of my brad...

Here is a close up of the snowflakes and Sentiment

Here are all of the items I used. My I-top, A Child's Year Cricut Cartridge, my I-top punches. I used Brilliance Brown ink not the blue pictured. I used Best Creation Brown and Blue Glitter paper along with the Bo Bunny Snowfall Paper.

I cut this Journal tag from the Bo Bunny Paper
I hope you enjoyed today's recap of last year's card.
