2 Valley Hikes..Vanalden Cave and San Vicente Missile

To contact us Click HERE

Highlights: Military background/Spectacular views over L.A.
Near: Encino
Distance: About 2 miles
Difficulty: Easy
Trail Condition: Dirt Fire Path
Rating: 4

Summary: I enjoyed this trail because of the military history involved with it. Who would have thought we had anti-aircraft missile launch sites in LA from the Cold War? The views are amazing once you get to the top, you can see downtown LA/Santa Monica and the Valley (I’m top of the world!!)(I also heard it’s also very romantic during sunsets;). This is a simple hike for beginners about 30 minutes each way and is just a fire dirt road(not much shade).

Trailhead: From the 405 freeway, take the Skirball exit and make a left on Mulhollond. Follow it all the way to the end when it turns into Encino Hills dr. look for the dirt parking lot on the left.

Vanalden Cave
Highlights: Cave
Near: Encino
Distance: About a half mile each way (about 30 minutes round trip)
Difficulty: Easy
Trail Condition: Good
Rating: 3

Summary: This hike is super short which was kind of disappointing to me because I love hour-2 hour hikes. The cave is huge and fun to explore, def. worth checking out.

Trailhead: Take Vanalden (Chevron station on the corner, just south of the 101 by Tampa) all the way south until it dead ends.

Hiking Review...Eagle Rock, Malibu

To contact us Click HERE
Hmm...My blog is acting up, I will have to add pics later:)

Highlights: Ocean view/Eagle Rock

Scenery: Ocean view if you hike the fire road/Meadow view if you take the Musch trail hike

Hike Time: 3.5 hours
Difficulty: Moderate/Musch trail consists of a lot of uphill hiking
Rating: 5 Stars

________________________________________
Summary: Eagle Rock was a hidden surprise to me. The review I read before heading it out only gave it 3 stars out of 5 so I didn’t have very high hopes, I just wanted to go on a new hike. I decided to take the Musch trail up because other reviewers gave it high reviews. Unfortunately, this was the part of the hike I was most unimpressed with. Though it did give me a good workout with lots of uphill hiking, the views were mediocre of rolling hills and meadows, I guess it was peaceful. The trail wasn’t marked twice so I just a lucky guess which path to take. Eagle Rock was amazing though, imagine a large rock jutting into the sky where you can climb and explore and sunbathe and enjoy the ocean view. On the way back I took the fire road, which I actually enjoyed better (and I do not like fire road hikes), the whole way back I just enjoyed the Malibu/Santa Monica oceanview.

Trailhead: From Topanga Canyon Boulevard, turn east on Entrada Road; that's to the left if you are coming from the San Fernando Valley. Follow Entrada Road by turning left at every opportunity until you arrive at Topanga State Park. The trailhead is at the end of the parking lot.

Daniel Radcliffe Dishes on the End of Harry Potter

To contact us Click HERE
Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.

There are just a couple of weeks left until the last Harry Potter flick is released (sad, we know). But, before the wizarding world comes to an official end, Daniel Radcliffe sat down with us to dish on life as Harry Potter (and if a kiss between Rupert and Hermione finally comes to fruition).

So, what did Radcliffe have to say about the end of the Potter era?

MORE: Daniel Radcliffe on Last Day of Potter Filming: "I Wept Like a Child"

When asked if there really would be no more Harry Potter films, Radcliffe quipped, "It's really coming to an end. I'm kind of waiting for somebody to graffiti ?at last' or something next to it."

The convo wasn't all jokes for the 20-year-old thesp, however. Radcliffe took a serious turn, noting that his experience on Potter has been a very beneficial one for him as an actor.

"I feel like It's been a huge learning curve and I've been fortunate enough to work with some of the best actors in the world," Radcliffe said. "I feel like to a certain extent that I've been in the best film/drama school that anyone could wish for because there's no better way to learn something than by doing it."

As for his thoughts on the outcome of the film series' last flick...

"I was actually really pleased," Radcliffe said with a smile. "I was very nervous going in because had I not been pleased then I probably would've been in a downward spiral and I probably wouldn't have been able to enjoy it as much. But thankfully I was just delighted and so proud, and it's a very good film. I do think Alan Rickman gives the film performance of his career in this movie."

And while Radcliffe didn't give away any of the film's surprises, he did touch upon Ron and Hermione's kiss in the movie.

"What's nice is that it's there but it's not lingered on," Radcliffe said. "I'm sure Ron and Hermione will get a big applause from the audience, and they should, they've been waiting long enough to see that happen. But what's lovely is the part after they break up and start laughing, I can see that it's just Rupert and Emma."

Since the trio has grown up together, we couldn't help but to ask him what his favorite moment was while playing the precocious wizard.

"I think for a while I took for granted that I was playing an action hero," Radcliffe said. "I've had to remind myself that it's not very often in an actor's career that you get to play action heroes, and there was a moment on the second film that I got to burst through the water into a ring of fire, and I actually did that. And I thought, if my career continues for another hundred years, I probably won't get to do that. So, that was pretty cool."

Prince Albert of Monaco and Charlene Wittstock wed, again.

That's right. The royal couple of Monaco followed their civil wedding on Friday with a Roman Catholic ceremony Saturday in front of some 300 guests gathered in the Main Courtyard of the Prince's Palace in Monaco.

Among the celebrity guests in attendance: fashion designers such as Karl Lagerfeld, Roberto Cavalli and Georgio Armani; supermodel Naomi Campbell; French President Nicolas Sarkozy; and actor Roger Moore.

Armani confirmed early this year that he would be the wedding dress designer. The gown was an off-white silk design featuring a long train with floral embroidery trimmed with stones in gold shades and crystal.

Macaulay Culkin hit up The Red Door Lounge in Billings, MT last night where he did a fantastic rendition of the classic song, "My Way" -- but did he do it as well as our own Harvey Levin did?

Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds' Divorce Finalized

To contact us Click HERE
Putting an official end to their under-the-radar romance, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds's divorce became final on Friday, after an out-of-the-blue split late last year.

The final divorce documents were filed Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, according to E!.

The pair discreetly dated before exchanging vows in rural wedding outside Vancouver in 2008. They have no children.

"Irreconcilable differences" were cited in court papers, and both have said very little to the press to shed additional light on their relationship or breakup.

While Johansson, 26, rebounded this year with a short-lived fling with Sean Penn, Reynolds insisted in a recent interview, "The media was not invited to my marriage, and they're definitely not invited into the divorce." And the 'Green Lantern' star, 34, did concede, "I don't think I want to get married again."

"Anyone who gets divorced goes through a lot of pain, but you come out of it," Reynolds added. "I'm not out of it yet. At all. But I sense that as I do come through it, there's optimism. How can there not be?"

He explained, "Any kind of crisis can be good. It wakes you up. I gotta say, I'm a different person than I was six months ago."

While the partnership did not result in any children, the former spouses did produce a unique collaboration: A new documentary about a lost orca whale found in a British Columbia waterway, and the contentious debate among locals about the affectionate animal's fate. You can catch a glimpse of 'The Whale' -- executive-produced by the couple, and narrated by Reynolds -- via the trailer, available on the movie's official website.

Although Mom isn't big into studying ancestry, with a maiden name like Kennedy she surely has some Irish in her genes. So while doing a li'l bit o' ye old research, I found this Irish saying that Dad and I think is particularly on point with Mom.
"It is better to spend money like there's no tomorrow than to spend tonight like there's no money!"

Our cousin Quest, who's partying in Belridge Maryland, agrees with us wholeheartedly. With his good looks and "knock out" Boxer personality, it's clear that the Katandy Kids are not shy of the camera.

Happy Birthday!

It's been forever since I blogged, but I can't let today go by without telling the world that today my little sister, Thelma Lou, turns 3-years-old in human years -- legal drinking age in dog years. She's now considered a legal beagle. Well, not really. She's still an English Lump Hound. As you can see, she's very excited about today.

Party Animal Thelma Lou
Besides her litter mates, Ammo, Floyd, and Bella, Thelma happens to share her birthday with a very special young lady, Cierra Nicole Shope! Cierra also turns 21 today or 147-years old in human years.

Again I find myself apologizing for slacking in my blog posts. I am going to try to make an effort to set aside 5 or 10 minutes a day to keep my faithful followers apprised of my activities. Make no bones about it, I have been a busy boxer this summer and love every minute of it. Basically, I am on my fourth vacation since Memorial Day. We kicked off the summer with a week in the OBX with the rest of the Knowlton Klan.

Then in July, Mom and I went camping with Pappy John and Jasper at Stony Creek Campground in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. We had a blast hiking some seriously steep trails and wallowing in a local water hole. Since I'm not a swimmer like Jasper Phelps, I really didn't do much more than wade but it was still fun.
Here are a few pictures of our camping trip.

In August Mom and I went to our first ever Blue Ridge Dog Scout Mini Camp which was organized by Carlisle Troop 161. What a blast! I spent almost a week with the founder of of Dog Scouts of America, Lonnie Olson and her boxer mix, Kozi, who taught me how to paint earning me my Art of Shaping badge. I'm no Picaso but Mom thinks that I really have potential. I entitled this work of art "Wipe out at the Daytona 500." If you're interested in purchasing a copy, just shoot me an e-mail.

"Wipe Out" by Newman Knowlton
I also earned five other merit badges -- CPR, First Aid, Backpacking, Overnight Camping, Dog Care and Maintenance. If you are interested in learning more about Dog Scouts and the requirements for earning badges, etc., I encourage you to visit the DSA website which houses a host of free, educational information on getting involved with the organization, responsible dog ownership, training videos and guides, and much more. Here is just a brief album of some of the activities that took place at Mini Camp. Enjoy!

And as tradition has it, we say goodbye to summer and celebrate my birthday with two weeks in the OBX. In addition to my birthday, today was also Grandparents Day. So Happy G-Day to all you grandparents out there. While I'm on the topic of holidays, I love presents just like anyone else, but I do not care for the brown, fly-ridden ones left behind by other K-9s and their irresponsible owners here the past two weeks. While I have already accumulated the requisite 50 stray piles of poo to earn my Clean Up America I Merit Badge, Thelma Lou and Roger have really put a dent in their logs over the past week and a half.
My 5th Birthday Celebration
You know the old saying, "The early bird catches the worm," well tomorrow morning this early bird is going to catch the turd -- meaning that I plan to get out early and patrol the neighborhood looking for those who neglect to clean up after their four-legged friends. It saddens me to say, that this is one of the worst years in my history of visiting the OBX that I have spotted and cleaned up so many stray piles of poo.

Photos of vacation in the OBX to be posted later this week. I promise.
